Our Mission Statment

Firebone Theatre acts as a lighthouse to New York City audiences by producing quality theatre experiences that confront the timeless questions of human mortality (bone) and divine immortality (fire). We are committed to cultivating new work and new talent and use both to engage our community in open dialogue about the subjects we address. Firebone Theatre is also committed to positively impacting New York City through service and educational programs aimed at empowering young people through the theatrical arts.
Our Company's Purpose

Beginning when Thespis stepped out of the chorus, live theatre is the forum where we ask the great questions of life. Beauty and truth, confrontation and soul-searching, ignites us to question the meaning of our existence. Theatre is the meeting place where the immortal (fire) and man's mortality (bone) can be wrestled with on a human level.

Classical plays like the Orestia, Peer Gynt, Antigone, and Dr Faustus were bold in confronting the themes of man’s relationships to the immortal, but what about contemporary plays? Many successful contemporary plays shy away from the question of life after death or the existence of God. Some attribute this to Postmodernism, defined as an age in which few believe in the existence of God, but in a recent study The Oxford Journal reported that 89% of Americans believe there is a God. We are here to discuss it.

Why do we exist? Was the universe created? Is God involved in the affairs of man? And, if there is such a God, why would that God allow grief and suffering? Why would a loving Creator allow humans to die? And, when we die, will we discover that this is all there is? Firebone Theatre seeks to bring these all-important questions to the stage.

Firebone Theatre believes that audiences are longing for plays that grapple with these big issues, to give a forum for discussion, and to foster the intellectual curiosity of both our artists and our patrons.
